Exquisite Corpse show at Oh-No! Doom

I'm looking forward to We Need Each Other, an exquisite corpse show opening from 6-10 pm, Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Chicago's Oh No! Doom Gallery. The huge collaborative piece they're going to display will consist of 80 1 x 1 foot artworks all connected to each other in a grid 16 feet long by 5 feet high. There'll also be a separate display of work by 20 other artists.

My first job was in telemarketing doing surveys over the telephone. From 14-17 years of age this funded my every activity, which namely was drug addiction and girls. Through 1994-97 any empty place where a janitor had a key and the need to make money there was a rave between the hours of 12p-6a. This included such locales as Chicago's roller-rinks, expo-centers, warehouses, Burger King basements, lofts, and even funeral homes. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I'd get a phone number that lead to a recorded voice relaying a map-point to the night's party. Pot, LSD,ruffies, ecstasy, coke, heroin, meth, glass, ice, and then rehabilitation. The path wasn't downward, instead it was one hell of a roller coaster, filled with pussy and more drugs. We were immortal until we meet death, but that's for another time.

Chicago was the birth place for house. And ghetto-house or bootie-house was it's little bad-ass bastard. WORK IT!

Chicago Roots

While moving and unpacking I recently came up on a VHS of early 90's Chicago graffiti. There is large coverage of permission and chill spots like Walls of Style, Walls of Grace, Imperial Furniture, the CTA competitions, and more. It has a section with riding the redline and harassing a CTA worker. Oh yeah, and there is a part with Artistic BASF2 spinning records in his bedroom.



It's chalk full of some of the sickest work from Ice-Pack, Chi-Rock, Fedz, THC, ASC, SB, J4F DC5, UEMF, and others... I can't remember where I originally picked it up, perhaps Time2Pound or BOMB records in East Chicago IN. Who knows?
