Upcycling is kind of like recycling, or as the folks at Wooster Collective explain, "transforming and reducing a degenerative form of art - advertising - into something of far greater value."
Michael Anderson is a great example of upcycling at it's finest. He takes advertising off the streets and reuses the images in his artwork creating chaotic collages that have almost a trance-like pattern, often compared to religious Hindu imagery. Don't miss his show up now at Marlborough Gallery in Chelsea.
