A successful program that makes public bikes available for rent in Paris may spread to Chicago.
Launched in July, the "Velib" bikes were part of the Paris mayor's idea to help reduce traffic and make the city more eco-friendly. Pro-bike enthusiast and mayor-for-life Richard Daley thought it was a great idea he wants to bring the program to Chicago.
Bikes can be rented from stations throughout the city. It's free for the first 30 minutes, then a charge for the next quarter hour and so on. Regular users can get a yearly membership and the rentals can be made from the same card used for public transit. Keeping you from not getting jacked looking like Pee Wee Herman on that thing, now that is a whole different story.
