Sears Tower To Be Renamed

The Willis Tower?

London-based Insurance Brokers Willis Group Holdings has purchased the naming rights to the Sears Tower and the building will now be renamed Willis Tower. They will consolidate five local offices into more than 140,000 square feet in the 110-story building at 233 S. Wacker Drive.

“Having our name associated with Chicago’s most iconic structure underscores our commitment to this great city, and recognizes Chicago’s importance as a major financial hub and international business center,” Joseph J. Plumeri, chairman and CEO of Willis Group Holdings, said in a release.

Sears has not had a presence in the building since 2004.

Not Cool. Read more about it here: Chicagorealestatedaily.com

The Sears tower is named after Chicago founded Sears-Roebuck&Co which was a long standing business in tht city for many years. As the article states the Willis group is based in London and although they are trying to show their commitment to the city of Chicago renaming a landmark structure will not gain any points. However a name is just a name to many Americans this structure will always be known as the Sears tower. Still Americas tallest structure!
